The Stay Fit 4 Kids Journey: Chapter Two — The Challenges We Faced

Some chapters in life don’t begin with excitement or celebration.

Some begin with a hard truth: something has to change.

For my family, that moment came after loss, after uncertainty, and after realizing that the life we once knew in Fort Bragg, NC could no longer carry us into the future we needed.

When Stability No Longer Felt Stable

As an active-duty Warrant Officer and a mother of four, I was used to juggling responsibility.

But grief changes the weight of everything.

Suddenly, the home we built, the one filled with memories, routines, and familiar walls felt like a reminder of a chapter we could no longer stay in.

At the same time, the demands of the military didn’t pause.

Life didn’t pause.

Bills didn’t pause.

And my children still needed a mother who could lead them forward, not keep them anchored in a place that held more pain than possibility.

The Decision No Parent Wants to Make

Selling our home was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made.

It wasn’t just a house; it was the last physical piece of the life we had before everything changed.

But I knew staying would keep us stuck.

And I knew my children needed a fresh start just as much as I did.

So I made the choice to sell our home.

Then I made another hard choice: to sell our investment properties as well.

These were assets we had built with intention, sacrifice, and long-term vision, but in that season, they became the bridge we needed to close one chapter and step into another.

Letting go wasn’t easy.

But sometimes, letting go is the only way to move forward.

Starting Over in Savannah, GA

Savannah wasn’t just a relocation; it was a reset.

A chance to rebuild our lives with new routines, new opportunities, and new hope.

Moving four children while serving on active duty was a challenge in itself.

There were days when exhaustion felt like a constant companion.

Days when I questioned whether I was making the right decisions.

Days when the weight of being both mother and father, provider and protector, felt overwhelming.

But every time I looked at my children, I remembered why I was fighting so hard for this new beginning.

What My Children and I Carried

The challenges we faced weren’t just logistical they were emotional.

They had to leave their friends, their school, their familiar world.

They had to adjust to a new city, new routines, and a new version of their mother; one who was healing while still trying to stay strong.

They had to learn that starting over doesn’t mean forgetting; it means choosing to grow.

And I had to learn that it was okay to rebuild slowly.

It was okay to not have all the answers.

It was okay to create a new life one step at a time.

Why This Part of the Journey Matters

So many parents know what it feels like to make impossible decisions.

To sacrifice stability for survival.

To uproot their lives for the sake of their children’s future.

If you’ve ever had to start over, whether by choice or by circumstance, I want you to know this:

Starting over is not a failure.

It is an act of courage.

It is an act of love.

And it is the first step toward becoming who you were meant to be.

What Comes Next

Next week, I’ll share how fitness became more than a coping mechanism; how it became a lifeline, a source of strength, and eventually, the foundation for the Stay Fit 4 Kids mission.
